The Series

Last Outing Between the Bulldogs and Big Blue

Last time out, BSU secured a dominant win over Bluefield State, 40-11, inside Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, WV. After a stalemate in the first quarter, the Bulldogs wasted no time, scoring two offensive touchdowns and one defensive but failed to convert two PAT attempts for a score of 19-0 going into halftime. Big Blue responded with a field goal in the third quarter, but BSU scored another touchdown, making the score 26-3 to end the quarter. The Bulldogs kept the momentum going, scoring two more touchdowns, while Bluefield State scored their only touchdown of the game, leading to the final score of 40-11.

• Second win for head coach Kyle Jackson against Bluefield State.

• Extends active win streak over Big Blue to two straight.

• Extend Bluefield State's losing streak to five games.

CIAA Honors

Bowie State redshirt junior Samuel Graham of the Bulldog football team was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Back of the Week on Monday. Graham earned the award after recording nine tackles, 1.5 TFL, and a breakup against Virginia State to lead the Bulldogs' defense. The accolade is Graham's first of the season and just the second time in 2024 that Bowie State has garnered a weekly honor.

The BSU's defense has only allowed 702 rushing yards through six games, which is the third-best mark in the CIAA conference.  Senior Saddiq Sawalu ranked second in the CIAA in solo tackles with 38 on the year, while junior Jamal Jones's three sacks have him tied for the third most in the conference.

Bowie State traveled to Ettrick, VA, for a matchup against Virginia State but came up short in the end, falling 38-17 inside Rogers Stadium. The Trojans started hot, scoring three touchdowns and one field goal in the first half while keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for a score of 24-0 going into halftime.
